Embedded software development from Lauf/Erlangen, Germany

Embedded Development – we start where others stop.

Embedded software runs inside the device itself – and that is exactly where we work. K-Type is your team for IoT connectivity (BLE/WiFi/Mesh), medical device firmware, and Edge AI, including hands-on Auracast/LE Audio experience. Deep specialist knowledge instead of a generalist approach, for manufacturers whose in-house team has hit its limits.

Proven in the field

  • 20+BLE model lines shipped for WSAudiology since 2017
  • 400+parking areas running IoT we built for BetterPark
  • 1 dayinstead of a month to a working BLE prototype at a client – with our easyBLE toolkit for UI–BLE integration
  • 10×cheaper BLE audio verification with our in-house test tool
01 · IoT & Connectivity

IoT devices built to hold up in the field – not just in the lab

For manufacturers who want to add a wireless feature to their device but don't have in-house radio expertise.

❌ Typical problem

  • Your team has embedded experience but no radio expertise – range and connection stability work in the lab, not at the customer's site
  • Unclear which stack (BLE, BLE Mesh, WiFi) and which chip platform fits the application
  • Companion app and firmware are built by separate teams that develop past each other

✅ Our approach

  • Firmware on Zephyr RTOS, Nordic nRF and Espressif platforms, precisely tailored to the use case and power budget
  • iOS/Android companion apps from a single team (.NET MAUI), so firmware and app teams don't develop past each other
  • Field tests with our own analysis tools instead of pure simulation, before the product ships to the customer

Reference customers in this area: Wanzl, Winterhalter, BetterPark, nexobility – industrial and IoT manufacturers who implemented wireless features without an in-house radio team.
Highlight · Auracast

Hands-on Auracast experience, before the market demands it

Auracast/LE Audio is new – most development teams only know the spec on paper. We've been building and testing Auracast products since the first silicon.

❌ Typical problem

  • Auracast/LE Audio is new to the market – few developers have hands-on implementation experience
  • Unclear how to reliably implement broadcast audio, multiple receiver roles, and channel switching
  • Testing without the right equipment is barely possible – reference hardware for all four Auracast roles is scarce

✅ Our approach

  • Our own test dongle BASSist emulates all four Auracast/LE Audio roles with a bidirectional USB audio pipeline – for fast prototyping and solid testing
  • Our own Auracast reference products built to production-ready quality (headset, receiver, microphone kit) – see examples on the right
K-Fan+ Auracast headset – K-Type's own reference product
K-Shouter+ Auracast microphone kit – K-Type's own reference product

Our own Auracast reference designs from the K-Fan/K-Shouter series – built to make concepts tangible for customers before their own product exists.

Market timing: starting in 2026, the Bluetooth SIG expects significantly broader Auracast hardware coverage across smartphones and the first hearing aid manufacturers. Those who start now are ahead of mass adoption.

02 · Medical Technology

Firmware that holds up in your company's QM system

For medical device manufacturers who want to add BLE or software features without tying up their own team in IEC 62304 documentation work.

❌ Typical problem

  • In-house developers are strong in embedded C, but IEC 62304 documentation eats up more time than the actual code
  • Risk management and evidence are bolted on afterward instead of being designed in from the start
  • External vendors without medical technology experience deliver code that gets kicked back at audit

✅ Our approach

  • We develop as a supplier inside our customers' IEC 62304 quality management system – documentation and evidence are produced alongside the code, not after it
  • Peer code reviews and automated unit/integration tests as standard, not an add-on
  • Experience from real medical technology projects, including for a hearing aid manufacturer – we know the requirements and processes from practice

Reference: WSAudiology / Sivantos – embedded software development as a supplier for an internationally active, certified hearing aid manufacturer. K-Type itself is not IEC 62304 certified – we work within our customers' QM system.
03 · Edge AI

AI capabilities directly on the device instead of the cloud

For manufacturers who want to use computer vision or voice features directly on the device – without cloud dependency, latency, or privacy risk.

❌ Typical problem

  • Cloud-based AI services mean latency, ongoing costs, and privacy concerns – unsuitable for many embedded applications
  • Few teams master both embedded systems and AI models (computer vision, LLMs)
  • Models need to run on limited hardware – pure data science know-how isn't enough for that

✅ Our approach

  • Experience with classic computer vision frameworks (OpenCV) and integrating LLMs into embedded systems
  • Reference project: automated license plate recognition on embedded hardware – from image capture to evaluation directly on the device
  • We're deliberately expanding our Edge AI capabilities – the current focus for the future is offline simultaneous translation with no cloud connection at all

I worked on a project with Martin. To paraphrase a well-known saying: nobody gets fired for choosing K-Type. It's that simple.
